Michael Solomonov rocketed to the top of the culinary races with Philadelphia’s Zahav, racking up acclaim and awards for his meticulous yet broadminded interpretations of Israeli cooking. His brother’s untimely death in Israel helped inspire his embrace of the cuisine. That tragedy also fueled a hidden but raging drug addiction that was consuming Solomonov from the inside. Only an intervention allowed him to save his own life and change almost everything about it, which in turn led him to a radically different understanding of his place in the world.
