At nightclubs and on big stages, bold, blinding strobe lights tell you how to feel. At New York City’s Crown Shy, there aren’t any strobe lights, but the restaurant did work with a Broadway lighting designer to bring a sense of theatrical direction to the dining experience. There’s an open kitchen that acts as the brightly-lit stage, but there are also hundreds of smaller strategically-placed pops of light you might not otherwise notice. In “The Details,” General Manager Jeff Katz walks through the subtle cues and discreet washes of illumination playing from every surface of the restaurant to create its feel.
